Saturday night I was gonna surprise Cinthia and show up at her craft thing in Ft Laud....I got off work early and everything...but unfortunately she dipped early. So I went to Grand Lux with Ivel instead. I had a mini pizza that was good, and some delicious beignets. After we passed by Luelles and sat on her backyard bay and talked for a few hours.
Yesterday I woke up, had some arroz con salchichas, cut my hair, then met up with Gary, Carolyn, and Raph. We went to Target and Hallmark, and then dropped Raph off. Then we went to a few places so I could get wrapping paper (when I got home, I realized that last year I had bought some wrapping paper really cheap after christmas for this year....bah!). We then went to Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine on Broward Blvd and I had a delicious palomilla steak with delicious white rice. Then I came home.
Nothing too fancy, just a good weekend with great amazing friends. Some were missing but...yea!
It's a sad day, when you start to realize that everything you had that was part of you, every talent and ability that was yours by grace, has now started to slip away into the realm of can-only-be-attained-through-hard-work.
This has been the story of my life, the last year or two of it. I've come to notice more and more things that I am no longer good at. Things I once did naturally, that now I struggle to just balance out on.
And it's quite disheartening, and frustrating. Especially because I've always been at least half decent at most things. There are some things I've worked hard for in life, but it's different...having to relearn something you've lost...it's not just a mental, but also a physical and emotion battle you fight.
And so far, I'm losing on every front!
In happier news, I FINALLY got back to editing my Hawaii photos. Yea, initially it was just laziness...but the last month has been so insanely hectic, that the few moments I had to myself free, I couldn't even begin to bring myself to even LOOK at the photos. So I tucked them away in my mind...til today.
I have some quite great photos...and a LOT of mediocre photos. But I'm trying to find a good balance between the "super awesome artsy" photographer in me, and the "must document everything in do" photographer. It's not easy.
So Thanksgiving this year consisted of what was the most delicious food I have ever had...as far as I can remember...on a Thanksgiving. See, I'm not a fan of the holiday, and usually the food is good but..nothing super special. This time though...mmmmm.
No Turkey, just a Honeybaked ham (which I barely had any of), and a cooked chicken. The chicken was insanely delicious. I HATE stuffing, but the stuffing was really good. The mashed potatoes (made by my brother, with Parmesan cheese and cream cheese) was also fantastic. And, the biscuits were great!
Black Friday was...not too bad. Actually, I had a lot of fun. I spent most of the morning working by myself, and juggling 4/5 customers at one point. I actually got complimented on my multitasking skills TWICE. I was running around, helping everyone, it felt great. Slowed down towards the end of the day.
Today wasn't so good. As soon as I got to work I started feeling really weak and sleepy (maybe I slept TOO much last night?), and spent a few hours just moping. I got some food in me and eventually got a bit better, but by 530 it had slowed down, and from 6 on it was just dead. I ended up leaving an hour early because it was just so painful to be there.
Luelle came over and watched Coraline with me. First time I'd seen her in months. Good to see her!
Been a bit hectic this month. I had an art showing Tuesday night. It wasn't a gallery or anything, but rather a small event at a bar on Las Olas that my friend Gina set up. It was a few different artists. It was loud, and dark...haha...and not much of a real showing atmosphere...but cool none the less. Many a good friend came out to support me, so that was nice.
A lot of my time the last few weeks has been dedicated to setting up the prints. Going through all my stuff, deciding what to do...it wasn't easy. I decided to go with "people" because that seems to be my best received stuff. I will def change it up next time.
What else? Well I hung out with Denise who is in town from PR for thanksgiving. Drove around a bit, went to Tate's where I got some more christmas shopping done.
Also hung out with my new friend Karen. Watched Up finally, and attempted to stargaze...but as usual South Florida's cloudy skies hate me.
Work's been...there. Down to 3 people in my department...so at times its a bit more hectic but honestly I prefer smaller staffs. Hopefully I made some money this commission period. Much less than I hoped but, money is money. BLACK FRIDAY this weekend...my boss tried to get us all to work 14 hour shifts at first...til I threw a fit and pointed out how insanely dumb that was. I mean, really...we're not clerks, we have to actively participate in every sale/interaction. At the 7th hour, we'd all be dead tired and wanting to go home, only to realize SHIT WE STILL HAVE 7 MORE HOURS. Wearing us down would be a stupid move. Not to mention it's COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY.
I do, unfortunately, have to work on Sunday since I took Tuesday off.
What else....music....eh...been too busy to even think of it. Certain potential partners for it are flakes so that hasn't worked out. Photography...I have barely taken any photos, due to the mass of hawaii photo editing that is looming over me...that I REALLY need to get done asap!
That's about it for now.
Hope your thanksgivings go well. Mine will be nice and quiet.
